Modi's Timeline Dec 8- Now PM defends demonetisation, says it will help farmers, labourers

1. PM defends demonetisation, now says it will help farmers, labourers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today likened demonetisation to a Hindu 'yagna' or sacrifice. In a series of tweets, the PM again defended his decision to scrap high value currency, but this time focussed on its benefit for rural India and wage labourers, the people who have been the most affected by the cash crunch.

The PM also made a mention of "a degree of inconvenience" due to the scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes and said that it was something he had alerted the country to and that "this short term pain will pave way for long term gains."His focus though was on what he called "the backbone of the nation" that is farmers, traders and labourers.

"The Government's decision has several gains for farmers, traders, labourers, who are the economic backbone of our nation. No longer will the progress and prosperity of rural India be curtailed by corruption and black money. Our villages must get their due," Modi said.

The PM also called demonetisation "a historic opportunity" to move to a cashless, technologically-advanced India.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) earlier on Wednesday launched the rocket carrying remote sensing satellite RESOURCESAT-2A.

The Space agency launched the satellite from the First Launch Pad (FLP) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota.

The PSLV-XL variant rocket standing 44.4 metre tall and weighing 321 ton tore into the morning skies at 10.25 a.m. with a reverberating sound breaking free of the earth’s gravitational pull.

The PSLV rocket is a four stage engine rocket powered by solid and liquid fuel alternatively.

3. MP CM supports demonetisation, Congress walks-out

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan firmly supported the demonetisation move by the Centre on the floor of the house. Addressing the Madhya Pradesh assembly at the end of the adjournment motion on effects of demonetisation on the agrarian economy.

In his reply to the house, Chouhan argued that contrary to Opposition's claim, sowing for Rabi crops has increased this season as compared to last year. "In 2015-16 there was a total 77 lakh hectare that was sown for Rabi crops which in 2016-17 has till date increased to 95 lakh hectare.

"There are 9700 ATMs in the state and 97% of them are working. There are 2.23 crore Jan Dhan accounts in the state which before November 8 announcement had deposits worth Rs 2000 crore. Only Rs 1000 cr has been added to the accounts after demonetisation, which works to about Rs 500 per account," he added.

Smartphones of the future: flexible designs and new uses

The Lenovo CPlus is a prototype smartphone that can roll up and be worn around your wrist. With Gartner predicting worldwide annual sales of more than 1.5 billion units, here a few ways that smartphone devices could evolve in the coming years. When Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPhone in 2007 (also known as the "iPhone 2G"), it broke all the codes of the mobile phone market at the time. The device caused a sensation with its 3.5-inch touch screen, which could be used without a stylus thanks to multi-touch technology. It offered Edge, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and ran its own operating system. The iPhone was even picked as the year's "Best Invention" by Time magazine. Little by little, the smartphone -- defined as a cell phone with a touchscreen, connected to the internet and able to be loaded with various applications -- took over from more basic flip-phone handsets with limited functionality.
