From fry-ups to fun runs - one mum's journey from size 22 to just 13 stone

The Chester-le-Street mum ballooned to 19 stone but has shed six stone and has been given a new lease of life
A hard-working nurse from Chester-le-Street shed six stone after ballooning to 19 stone.
Five years ago Joanne Hume, was a size 22 - struggling to find anything to wear.
Proof that dieting is not a quick fix, the 45-year-old took two and a half years to reach her goal weight.
Now she is a keen runner, even completing the Great North Run for Cancer Research, and the mum-of-two puts her remarkable success down to Weight Watchers.
She said: “It was before my 40th birthday that made me lose weight. I was getting ready for my nephew's first birthday and my aunt's birthday party.
“I looked in my wardrobe and couldn't see anything that fitted me. I decided that was when I needed to lose weight. I just didn't want to be fat and 40.”

Working at Sunderland Royal Hospital, Joanne had to juggle her children and night-shifts when trying to first lose the weight.
But it was her supportive husband, Paul, who then weighed 20 stone, that helped keep her going.
She added: “When I first started losing weight I was on night-shifts and I did have to try and plan ahead for all my meals.
“But my husband was supportive and is now coming to meetings with me.”
The lively weekly get-togethers have helped keep Joanne on course towards her goal weight - at one point dropping to just 11 stone.
Unlike many shocking weight loss stories, Joanne always planned to lose the weight steadily to try and keep the pounds off long-term.
Offering inspiration to some people who are intimidated by the thought of rapid weight loss Joanne is willing to give advice.

She said: “You just have to keep going and keep just chipping away.
“It's like a statue: it starts off like a block of rock but then you start very slowly to become a sculpture.”
The mum-of-two is also becoming a grandmother and her son is encouraging her stay slim and healthy.
She said: “My son Steven, who is 21, is making me a grandma in April next year. So it's really important for me to keep my fitness up to be able to run after my new grandchild.”

With just weeks to go before Christmas many slimmers are nervous about any potential weight gain.
But Joanne deliberately chose to join Weight Watchers so she could eat what she likes.
The 45-year-old slimmer said: “My favourite meal is chicken jalfrezi that my husband makes for me every Wednesday after I get back from class.”
Now at her goal weight, Joanne is continuing to keep the weight off with her family's support.s

Thinkstock photo Dubai, December 6 Men who exercise between three and five times a week may improve their sperm counts and other measures of sperm quality in just a few months, according to a new study. Researchers from Urmia University in Iran also found that men exercising moderately and continuously improved their sperm quality more than those following popular intensive exercise programmes like high intensity interval training (HIIT). One in three couples struggle to conceive due to poor semen quality. The only treatment available for couples unable to conceive naturally is In vitro fertilisation (IVF), but using poor quality sperm may increase the risk of miscarriage, birth defects and the development of childhood cancer, researchers said. Current advice for men seeking to improve their chances of conceiving include combining healthy eating with regular exercise while giving up smoking and reducing the intake of alcohol. However, the link between exercise and s...
